Over four years ago, the first plans to adapt Console Wars, a book detailing the titular ” console war” between SEGA and Nintendo in the 1990s, were announced. Back then, the adaption was poised to be a movie by Sony Pictures that was directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, but the production has been fairly silent since then. Today, more information about the projects was finally revealed, courtesy of Nerdist, though this Console Wars adaptation has taken a different form since then.

Console Wars is now set to be a limited drama TV-series developer by Legendary and directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, a director you may know for Kong: Skull Island and the upcoming Metal Gear Solid movie. Meanwhile, the pilot will be written by Mike Rosolio. Point Grey Pictures, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are still attached to the project as producers alongside Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Mike Rosolio, James Weaver, Eli Bush, Julian Rosenberg, and Flying Penguin Pictures’ Harris and Jonah Tulis.

The team behind Console Wars does give me a vote of confidence for the project as I have enjoyed many of the projects that have come from these people previously like Preacher and the aforementioned Kong: Skull Island. I’ve also been looking forward to an adaptation of the book since I first read Console Wars around the time it came out and heard about the adaptation.

That being said, this Legendary’s limited drama TV series based on Console Wars still does not have a release date and does not seem to have been picked up by a network or streaming service yet. If that changes, DualShockers will be sure to let you all know. If you want to check up on the story and read the whole book in the meantime, you can pick Console Wars up on Amazon.
