Even though Black Ops 4’s Operation Grand Heist added a ton of great content, there’s one thing added that most people aren’t a fan of: loot boxes. Despite fan’s hopes that they finally got away from Supply Drops, it seems like they are here to say. Even if we put all that aside, however, there’s still the matter of their contents. Before the game was originally released, David Vonderhaar went on record to say that no Blackout characters would be locked behind loot boxes, and now that that’s no longer the case, the Treyarch developer has gone on record talking about the issue.
Speaking in a Reddit post, Vonderhaar defended himself by saying that not only do things change that he has no control over in the development process, but that it’s even truer when it comes to the business decisions that are made. While he didn’t explicitly say that it was Activision’s doing, it does seem like a strong possibility given the company’s history. Of course, this is all speculation at this point, however, you can check out the full response here and make a judgment for yourself.
For those that don’t know, the new Black Market system allows players to earn reserve cases in the game, which give you one in-game item. However, players can also purchase Reserve Crates, which includes three cases, netting you three total items, for 200 COD points. It’s a complicated process, however, it takes a long time to earn cases, and because of this, combined with the fact that some content is now held behind a pay well, people are upset.
