Mama Mia! A new Mario game has been slated to be heading to mobile devices early this summer according to Nintendo as originally announced through this Tweet — also found below. Nintendo states that they’ve partnered with LINE Corporation to bring Dr. Mario World to mobile users in a news release post.

Yes, that’s right, 1990 classic Dr. Mario found players matching various falling tiles. It’s a similar style to Tetris but finds Mario himself, kitted up in doctor attire trying to eradicate viruses. But what is Dr. Mario World? Well, details are fairly scarce at the moment, the news release post merely states the partnership in the mobile game business with Nintendo and LINE Corporation co-developing the title for smart devices.
It also states that the two companies will operate a new action puzzle game featuring Dr. Mario himself, the game is titled Dr. Mario World, and a target for an early summer 2019 global release is planned. More details are summarised in the bottom of the news release stating that the game will be free-to-play for iOS and Android but will feature optional in-app purchases.
This isn’t surprising after the success Nintendo saw with Super Mario Run. Although it appears as if Dr. Mario World will be less running and will possibly take after the 1990 classic. My reasoning for believing this is due to the nature of LINE Corporation’s previous titles for Android and iOS. LINE Pokopang is a puzzle game with tile matching features, LINE: Disney Tsum Tsum is also a puzzle game featuring matching tiles.
Essentially we could be seeing a recreation of the classic NES title that also saw launches on the Gameboy, Gameboy Advance, and SNES. LINE also use multiplayer leaderboards to add to competitive play and seems to use special items you can buy with real money to earn more points.
Of course, when we learn more about Nintendo’s new mobile title Dr. Mario World we’ll let you know the details. What are your thoughts on this new arrival to Nintendo’s mobile line-up? Earlier today we learned that Mario Kart Tour for iOS and Android is being delayed, also to Summer 2019.
Dr. Mario World is planned for release onto Android and iOS devices sometime this year during early summer.
