Recently, I got the opportunity to go hands-on with the latest video game in the Alien franchise; Alien: Blackout. During my time with the game, I also got to speak with the Vice President of FoxNext Games, TQ Jefferson, whose team is publishing Blackout. I know Alien: Blackout can be a rather controversial title in the eyes of Alien fans, as it moves the story of Amanda Ripley from consoles to phones and tablets.

Seeing as the overall gameplay is more suited for a mobile platform, I asked Jefferson if the team would ever consider porting Blackout to a console like the Nintendo Switch considering the device has touch controls. He said:

“I think Switch is a good one to bring up and we’ve certainly seen many games go from mobile to console or more likely console to mobile. If I had to pick a platform to put it (Alien: Blackout) on, I’d pick Switch.”

As previously mentioned, Alien: Blackout has received quite a bit of backlash due to it being a mobile title as opposed to a proper console-based sequel to Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation. However, I don’t necessarily think the trash talk is super warranted considering people haven’t gotten their hands on the game yet. Furthermore, the team at Rival Games is making it so players who purchase Blackout get the full experience right from the get-go. From what I’ve been told, there’ll be no form of microtransactions to hamper the experience in any way.

Alien: Blackout will launch on January 24 for iOS and Android devices. If you don’t touch mobile games, FoxNext is also collaborating with Cold Iron Studios on a massively multiplayer online shooter, so look forward to that.
