Fans of horror indie games may remember Moons of Madness, a sci-fi horror game from Rock Pocket Games set on Mars that was revealed back in 2017. Today, Funcom, a publisher known for titles like Conan Exiles and Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, revealed that it will be publishing the Moons of Madness for PC, PS4, and Xbox One and will be releasing it during “the Halloween Season.”
According to Funcom, since it has signed on as publisher Moons of Madness has taken the “initial concept to new heights through expanded gameplay and scope.” Ivan Moen, CEO of Rock Pocket Games, reflected this in his own comment, stating “With Funcom’s support we have been given the opportunity to do all the things we wanted to do with the game and the story.”
The Funcom connection also means Moons of Madness officially takes place in the same world as Secret World Legends. Moons of Madness follows a technician named Shane Newehart, who is initially not informed of the intelligent life signals found on Mars as a simple technician at the Orochi Group’s Invictus Research Station, but beings to run into Lovecraftian-like visions and hallucinations the longer he stays on the ship. The game certainly seems to have a evolved since its initial reveal so I’m definitely curious to see how it turns out later this year.
