World of Warcraft Game Director Ion Hazzikostas took to the team’s YouTube channel to announce tons of new content coming to the MMO in its next patch. The almost 20-minute video detailed changes big and small for the upcoming Visions of N’Zoth. With WoW in a downswing throughout the Battle for Azeroth expansion, it’s important that this patch. Obviously, it’s too early to tell, but there are several updates coming that at least have me intrigued to learn more. Check out the full video below.
Visions of N’Zoth marks the first time one of the Old Gods has fully broken from their shackles and is free to roam Azeroth. This will manifest in N’Zoth and his forces taking over different zones in what the team is calling Assaults. Essentially, certain zones with an affinity for Old Gods (think Vale of Eternal Blossoms) will come under attack from the lieutenants of N’Zoth’s army and you will have to fight them back. As you gain familiarity with the enemy, you’ll need to actually go inside N’Zoth’s mind and facing his Horrific Visions.
These are potentially the most interesting thing the team is adding. Hazzikostas describes these in the video as instanced content for groups of 1-5. Your first time in will likely end with a quick death. Your brain isn’t prepared to deal with the onslaught of N’Zoth’s dark power. However, every time you go in, you’ll slowly build up different resistances and be able to make it further into the Old God’s dark dreams. As someone who primarily plays WoW solo, these rogue-like dungeons are incredibly appealing. I can plug away at my own pace and get the same feeling of progression as a five-man group. And, the Visions scale based on group size, so they will have the same challenge I do.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a major World of Warcraft expansion without a gigantic raid. The 12-boss encounter is called Ny’Lotha and will challenge most groups as they go up against N’Zoth’s forces. You’ll also finally be able to play as Vulpera (Horde) and Mechagnomes (Alliance) with the new allied races. Finally, the auction house will be getting a complete redesign to make the system faster and easier to use.
World of Warcraft: Visions of N’Zoth is on the Public Test Realm now. The patch will launch at a later date. For Rise of Azshara, the PTR phase started in April and the patch launched in late June. When it does come available, you’ll be able to download it on PC.
