PS4 system software update 7.00 is arriving this week. Of all the party features and remote play upgrades it’ll bring, the most notable might be an increase in maximum party size. Parties have been limited to a maximum of eight people so far. Of course, anyone who’s been in a party of eight knows that’s more than enough people to ruin the possibility of a coherent conversation. That maximum party size is doubling to 16 nonetheless.

This change was first introduced through the PlayStation Preview Program back in June. Those that signed up for the program had a chance to enter a beta test for the 16-person cap. That test apparently went well enough to introduce the change to every PS4 owner around the world.

Improved audio quality and network connectivity, as well as chat transcription, also made it out of the beta test. Chat transcription can convert party voice chat into text on a second screen or read text entered on that second screen aloud for the party. It’s still limited to the US, though.

7.00 is also bringing Remote Play to Android devices. Your device needs to be running Android 5.0 or higher–then you just have to download the PS4 Remote Play app once the software update releases. iPhone and iPad owners can expect an upgrade to their remote play app that allows the controller to be displayed at all times and screen orientation to be locked.

You’ll be able to use a DualShock 4 controller for any of the devices above, but you have to update to Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, or macOS Catalina first. As always, it’s recommended you use a strong wired connection for Remote Play.

In worse news, 7.00 arrives not long after Sony’s decision to end its relationship with FaceBook. The PS4 no longer supports FaceBook integration as of today. You’ll have to look to some site that gathers data differently (Twitter) for all your screenshot sharing needs.
