In a recent bug with the matchmaking of Red Dead Redemption 2‘s online counterpart, Red Dead Online, a few eagle-eyed community members are spotting unannounced modes. Titled Gun Rush and Gun Rush Teams, the markers would flash on the screens menu before disappearing entirely.

The news comes from the official Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Online subreddits, where multiple reports of this bug popping up. According to Redditor u/BenMahagoni, it appeared on screen “for a split second” before disappearing:

New game mode soon? Gun Rush and Gun Rush Teams from r/reddeadredemption

And while any “leak” on the internet should be taken with a giant grain of salt, there have been multiple reports of this happening. Specifically, another user u/donajello1 had the same thing happen a couple days ago:

I was about to quick join a showdown series but for a split second there were 2 more options. I clipped it and this is what was there. Probably a new game mode coming with the update this week? from r/RedDeadOnline

Now there is some healthy speculation on what these modes will be, if they eventually get rolled out officially. Given that it is 2018, it is always a worthwhile guess that this may be a Battle Royale mode. Others within the thread, meanwhile, pointed to GTA Online‘s Kill Quota mode that will go slowly wane powerful weapons from the game until it ends in a fist fight.

However, until Rockstar makes a statement or rolls out the update, it is anyone’s guess.

In the meantime, it looks like Rockstar is just doing their best trying to keep up with the main issues that players are pointing out in Red Dead Online — beginning with the economy. After it was pointed out that (comically) a can of baked beans is more valuable than gold rings, Rockstar began rolling out fixes to balance the economy.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently available on PS4 and Xbox One; meanwhile, Red Dead Online is still in active beta on both of those platforms. If you still haven’t picked up one of gaming’s best titles of 2018, you can pick up the game on Amazon now.
