Anthem launched yesterday for those who are part of the Origins Access subscription, and the day before, on February 14, Neill Blomkamp launched his Anthem short film titled, “Conviction: An Anthem Story”. However, talk of Apex Legends surfaced on Twitter with the film director sharing thoughts on a potential character being introduced to the Battle Royale game.

Originally, Neill Blomkamp has shared a Tweet featuring images of the cast and crew situated in Haiwai on location for shooting the live-action film based in the Anthem universe.

Shortly after, a Twitter user asked is there was any word on Chappie joining Apex Legends. A different request to what I’ve been seeing online as I’ve been seeing people wanting a Chappie suit in Anthem.

For those unaware, Chappie is a 2015 film surrounding the story of an artificial intelligence robot that was originally designed to work in law enforcement. The film finds the robot stolen and trained to be a gangster, leading to its titular name, Chappie.

The film had a $49 million budget and grossed $102 million worldwide, The film also makes use of Neill Blomkamp’s style of using photo-realistic CGI with live-action footage.

Blomkamp responded to the users Tweet by quote retweeting it and saying, “Lotta people asking me this. I am down yes”,

So, that in itself is exciting that Blomkamp is interested in having one of his works featured in another video game outside of Anthem. The Tweet sparked recognition from Vince Zampella, the CEO from Respawn Entertainment, the developers behind Apex Legends, with him saying, “I am also down.”

To add even more people to the list of replies, Min-Liang Tan, the CEO of Razer jumped on to say, “Love it!”.

So while it’s not confirmation, it seems like it has the potential to happen, and fans of both Chappie and Apex Legends will have their dreams of playing as Chappie. There doesn’t seem to be any talks on whether or not Chappie will be a brand new character joining the roster, or if it’ll just be a skin available in-game, no doubt replacing Pathfinders current model.

Apex Legends is free-to-play on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It hit over 25 million players since launch. I shared thoughts yesterday on how I think the game can survive when Battle Royale inevitably dies out.
